Aoun For Electing a President After Nov. 24

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun said Monday the constitutional time frame for the election of a new head of state goes beyond Nov. 24, when the extended term of President Emile Lahoud expires.

 

“The time limit for the election (of a president) remains open even after Nov. 24. Parliament remains open until a president is elected,” Aoun told reporters.

 

It couldn”t be determined, though, if Aoun was suggesting an extension of the constitutional time line to elect a head of state after the feuding parties failed to agree on a consensus candidate.
