Fares Soueid: Syria and Iran are obstructing the presidential elections
Former MP Fares Soueid told the Voice of Lebanon radio station that the French initiative is currently blocked because of Iranian involvement in Lebanon.
“The Iranians want to use Lebanon as a postal box to deliver messages to the international community,” said Soueid.
“Syria has failed to disengage from its alliance with Teheran because of Iranian pressure,” he added.
According to Soueid, the obstacle to the presidential elections is not coming from the Maronites. “It lays in the Iranian-Syrian axis,” said Soueid. “Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has given some positive sings, but has rejected them in the past days,” he added.
