MP Hassan Khalil: Tomorrow’s session is still on
MP Nabil de Freij expressed hope that an agreement will be reached over the candidacy of army commander General Michel Sleiman before tomorrow’s presidential session.
“If everyone makes Lebanon’s interests a priority, MPs would be expected to elect a new president tomorrow,” he told LBC television’s morning talk show.
De Freij said the opposition’s unclear stance over a constitutional amendment to facilitate Sleiman’s election is a maneuver to buy some time pending Syria’s final decision on the matter.
“The ball is in the opposition’s court,” he said. “As long as there is a national consensus over Suleiman’s positive role as army commander, why all this obstruction?” he added.
MP Hassan Khalil of the Development and Liberation bloc headed by Speaker Nabih Berri told France Press that tomorrow’s presidential session set by Berri is still on.
Khalil said that the election of a new president tomorrow is pending the agreement over a candidate, whether it is army commander General Michel Sleiman or someone else.
