
PM Siniora: Sleiman’s candidacy will help move past the presidential vacuum
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora stressed on the importance of the March 14 decision to support the candidacy of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman.
“It is a very important step toward moving past the presidential vacuum,” Siniora said.
He also discussed the results of the Annapolis Conference with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov over the phone.
Siniora also called religious leaders Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, Grand Mufti Sheik Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, Vice President of the Shia Islamic Higher Constitution Sheik Abdul Amir Qabalan and Beirut’s Orthodox Metropolite Bishop Elias Awde.
In addition, the PM called Kataeb leader Amin Gemayel and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.
