MP Zahra: The presidential vacuum has been intentionally imposed on us

 

MP Antoine Zahra denied any disagreement within the ranks of March 14 on the constitutional amendment to facilitate the election of General Sleiman, but admitted to some reservations on its form. He said that it has been extensively discussed by party leaders.

 

Zahra told the weekly newspaper Al-Anbaa that March 14 support for General Sleiman is not a maneuver.

“The presidential vacuum is endangering Lebanon and so is the pressure from March 8,” Zahra said.

 

He also said that seeking an agreement over Sleiman’s candidacy is a test to see if Hezbollah is ready to drop its project to take control over the country.

 

Zahra denied that Kataeb leader Amin Gemayel and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea tried to reach a compromise with Sleiman during their visit to the Ministry of Defense.

 

“The call by the opposition for an agreement on a package deal thwarts the bases of democracy,” said Zahra.

“The presidential vacuum has been intentionally imposed on us. The vacuum is the worst, and Sleiman’s candidacy is the best way out,” he noted.
