Four blasts rock Palestinian base in Bekaa

Four large explosions ripped through a base manned by Ahmad Jibril”s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command (PFLP-GC) in Lebanon”s Bekaa Valley at around noon on Wednesday. Security sources told The Daily Star that four cars from inside the camp evacuated casualties to Syria.

The sources said that the camps are located in the area that stretches between the Bekaa villages of Maissra and Juntra, located on the border between Syria and Lebanon.

The sources added that the region also houses Hizbullah training camps.

Meanwhile, a 10-year-old Palestinian girl was wounded in an armed clash on Wednesday between rival factions in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh in South Lebanon, Palestinian officials said.

“Armed clashes broke out between Fatah members and former militiamen of the Islamist grouping Osbat al-Ansar inside Ain al-Hilweh,” one official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

He said the girl was wounded during the exchange of machine-gun fire that only stopped after Palestinian factions intervened to end the clash.

Maher Owayed, an official of the Islamist group Ansar-Allah, explained to AFP that “the clashes erupted following a [personal] dispute between members of the two camps.”

A similar clash between militants of Fatah and those of the PFLP-GC in a Beirut refugee camp wounded three people last month.

Earlier this year fierce fighting raged for three months at the refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared in North Lebanon between the Lebanese Army and Fatah al-Islam militants. More than 400 people – including about 300 militants and 168 soldiers – were killed before the army crushed the uprising on September 2.
