Feltman: Berri Wants an End to Vacuum

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Geffrey Feltman said Saturday Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri “wants to see an end to the presidential vacuum as soon as possible.”

 

Feltman made the remarks in a dialogue with reporters after meeting Berri at the latter”s residence in Beirut.

Berri, Feltman said, is looking for ways to hold the presidential election as soon as possible.”

 

In answering a question as to whether he believes a parliamentary session scheduled for Tuesday to elect a president would be held on time, Feltman said: “I hope so.”

 

The United States, he added, encourages efforts to “find all the ways, in line with the constitution, to hold the presidential election.”
