
Gen. Suleiman Vows to Shepherd Lebanon”s Resurrection
Army Commander Gen. Michel Suleiman said Tuesday Lebanon”s “resurrection” started with his troops deployment in south Lebanon, stressing that the regular force would safeguard security, stability and public freedoms.
Suleiman made the remarks after inspecting his troops deployed south of the Litani river in line with U.N.
Security Council resolution 1701 that ended a 34-day war between Israel and Hizbullah in the summer of 2006.
“Lebanon”s resurrection started with the deployment of the army in the south which achieved sovereignty over our national soil, protected the liberation from the Israeli enemy, and safeguarded sacrifices by thousands of martyrs who fell while defending the homeland,” Gen. Suleiman told his troops at their regional command post in the southern village of Ein Ibil.
Suleiman stressed that the Army “is committed to its national creed to safeguard these accomplishments, security and stability of the people and to protect public freedoms.”
The army, according to its commanding officer, also is determined to protect Lebanon”s “message based on the will of joint existence.”
Gen. Suleiman also called the troops for “more effort, more discipline and more patience to overcome difficulties encountered by Lebanon in this exceptional era.”
