Minister Ogassapian: The Hajj assassination is a message to the Lebanese army
Minister Jean Ogassapian said that to save Lebanon, MPs should elect Army Commander General Michel Sleiman as president.
“No doubt the military institution has paid a very high price this year, with many of its officers and soldiers falling in battle,” Ogassapian told the Voice of Lebanon radio station, referring to the Nahr al-Bared military confrontations that resulted in the death of 168 soldiers and officers.
According to Ogassapian, with the assassination of Hajj, the army is paying the price for political tensions and struggles. He also said that the army is facing risks and challenges similar to those threatening March 14.
“The government referred the assassination of Hajj to the Justice Council and has commissioned PM Fouad
Siniora to ask for Hajj’s name to be added to the UN International Investigation of recent political assassinations,” he said.
Ogassapian also said that Hajj’s assassination is a clear message to the Lebanese army, which is preserving stability and order, and to its commander, General Michel Sleiman, who is the only candidate for the presidency.
