Army command denounces Succariyeh’s statement on Hajj assassination
The Lebanese army command issued a statement in response to the declaration made yesterday by retired
General Walid Succariyeh over the assassination of Brigadier General François Hajj.
Succariyeh said that the assassination of General Hajj was aimed at preventing him from becoming army commander.
“His assassination serves the interests of the US, Israel and the Lebanese Forces,” Succariyeh declared yesterday.
“Brigadier General François Hajj is the martyr of all Lebanese,” read the army’s statement. “Succariyeh’s statement is an anticipation of the investigation’s results,” it added.
In the statement, the army declared Succariyeh’s words an attempt to undermine the military institution and General Hajj. It said it would discuss the retired general’s claims with the committee investigating Hajj’s assassination.
