Minister Pharaoun: March 14 is still insisting on General Sleiman as president

 

Minister Michel Pharaoun said that the assassination of Brigadier General François Hajj was aimed at weakening the Lebanese army.

 

“However, it will increase the Lebanese people’s commitment to move forward toward the country’s sovereignty,” he said.

 

Pharaoun noted that some factions consider assassination a political tool. “The Special Tribunal has been established to stop these crimes,” he declared.

 

He also denounced unrealistic arguments that are being used to avoid the election of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman.

 

“These arguments are being used as blackmail and are an attempt to stop Lebanon’s march toward sovereignty, to force compromise and to halt the advancement of the Special Tribunal.”

 

Pharaoun said that March 14 is still insisting on the election of General Sleiman.

 

“The legitimacy of the government is not under scrutiny at the present time because what matters is filling the

presidential vacuum,” Pharaoun said.
