Grand Mufti Qabbani: The opposition wishes to cripple the government
Grand Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani said, “The Lebanese must prevent their country from becoming the victim of their differences. Unfortunately, some of the Lebanese parties are not practicing political activities within constitutional institutions,” Qabbani told the Kuwaiti daily Al-Anbaa.
He also said that the opposition intends to cripple the government in order to create a vacuum in the premiership and hamper its role in preserving constitutional institutions, the country’s stability and security.
Qabbani noted that the presidential elections are mired in deep differences between the Lebanese, which are worsened by unconstitutional arguments that are preventing the election of a new president and driving Lebanon into chaos.
“This does not give hope, especially if the present state is prolonged,” Qabbani said.
He also called for politicians to use reason and set things right. “But if some factions do not accept it, things will get much worse.”
Qabbani expressed appreciation for Arab efforts to help Lebanese reach a solution and push the country out of its crisis.
