MP Antoine Zahra: Presidential elections would be a blow to Hezbollah
MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces said that the presidential elections would be a blow to Hezbollah’s plans to create a separate state.
Zahra told the weekly Al-Ousbuu Al-Arabi that MP Michel Aoun is not the one who decides on a solution on behalf of the opposition, and that dialogue must be with Iran.
“The visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch to Lebanon was aimed at denying rumors circulated by some over a deal between the US and Syria at the Annapolis Conference,” Zahra said.
He also pointed out that the international community aims to insure the required funding for the functioning of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which will be held in Holland.
Zahra said that Welch’s second visit will result in a new political dynamic. He also said that the election of new president is a matter of weeks, not days.
“Therefore, Saturday’s session will be postponed and face the fate of its predecessors,” he added.
