French charge d’affairs Andre Parrant stresses on the need to elect a president

French charge d’affairs in Lebanon, Andre Parrant, said that France is convinced that the presidential vacuum in Lebanon is dangerous and unacceptable.

“This state of vacuum must not be prolonged and is negatively affecting Christians,” he said.

Parrant reiterated the call on opposition and pro-government politicians to remain ready to elect a president on Saturday if possible.

“Those who are delaying the presidential elections must bear responsibility,” Parrant said after his meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.

“This is not only the stance of France, but also of all of Lebanon’s friends who met at the Paris conference under the auspices of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,” he added.

Western and Arab nations, along with the United Nations and European Union, urged the Lebanese parliament to end the month-long crisis by electing a new president without delay in a statement issued on the sidelines of a donor conference for the Palestinians in Paris.

“The election of a new president is a crucial step toward restoring trust among Lebanese and reviving state institutions,” Parrain noted.
