MP Ammar Houri: An exceptional parliamentary session is constitutional

MP Ammar Houri of the Future bloc said that the French are frustrated over the opposition and the Syrian regime’s stances and are reconsidering their strategy.

Houri said that the solution to the present crisis lies within the Lebanese themselves. “Unfortunately, our partners in the opposition have a different agenda which does not take into consideration Lebanon’s interests,” he told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.

“Speaker Nabih Berri is not expected to agree or disagree on the government’s call for an exceptional parliamentary session, for it has been opened according to the constitution,” Houri said.

He also said that the parliament must carry on its activities even if a president is elected during the exceptional session.

“We have a lot of work to finish, and we need to compensate for the loss of time because the parliament did

not convene for more than a year,” he added.

Houri said that the coming hours will be crucial for the constitutional amendment. “We will not spare efforts in order to ensure the election of a new head of state and the reopening of the parliament,” he added.
