Gemayel: The majority will not withdraw its support of General Sleiman’s candidacy

 

Former President Amin Gemayel said that Prime Minister Fouad Siniora is serving the Lebanese by adopting the draft constitutional law aimed at facilitating the presidential elections.

 

He also called on Christian MPs, especially Maronites, to participate in Saturday’s session and ensure the required quorum.

 

Gemayel said that the majority is still endorsing the candidacy of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman.

 

“The government has no intention to take over the presidential authorities, but it is only ensuring the continuity of the state’s functioning,” Gemayel told the Future News channel.

 

“The opposition bears responsibility for the present situation,” Gemayel said. He also called on the opposition to facilitate holding the presidential elections so it can have a clear conscience.

 

He also reiterated the call to elect a president without pre-conditions.
