Prime Minister Fouad Siniora: We hope to hand authority to a new president as soon as possible
Prime Minister Fouad Siniora sent New Years greetings to all Lebanese and reiterated his hope that Lebanon will enjoy stability, prosperity and the regular functioning of constitutional institutions in 2008.
“The first step toward this is the election of a new head of state,” Siniora said.
He also reiterated the government’s hope to hand power to the new president and the parliament as soon as possible. “This responsibility and these powers are given to us by the constitution,” he added.
PM Siniora said that the Lebanese are getting bored of the “faked crisis.” “Yet the people will not be subdued by despair and are still hoping for solutions.”
“The Lebanese are demanding us to work sincerely to find a solution without any delay to save Lebanon and serve our country, its independence and sovereignty,” Siniora added.
