Security men free on bail after raid

Military Prosecutor Jean Fahd on Thursday released on bail two officers and three servicemen from General Security in connection with a raid that targeted the Crystal nightclub in Beirut”s Achrafieh district. General Security members raided the club last week under the pretext of arresting illegal Sudanese workers.

 

A state of panic swept through the club, and people were forced to the floor.The Sudanese Embassy issued a

statement saying that it had contacted the Lebanese Foreign Ministry to ask for details over the incident and to determine whether the Sudanese workers could be given consular protection.

 

The Lebanese daily An-Nahar said that four foreigners were arrested at the nightclub for entering Lebanon illegally. The decision to settle the Sudanese workers” legal status or repatriate them is the responsibility of General Security.
