French Foreign Ministry: France is not reconsidering its diplomatic relations with Syria

 

French Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Pascale Andreani reiterated Paris’ stance on breaking off political contacts with Syria over the presidential elections in Lebanon.

 

“Contacts on the political level have been brought to an end between Syria and France until Damascus proves its good intentions and a new president who enjoys the widest support is elected in Lebanon,” she said.

 

“Our decision is not aimed at reconsidering our relations with Syria,” Andreani said.

 

She also said that while France appointed Ambassador Michel Duclos to Syria, Damascus has not appointed an ambassador to Paris, but only has a charge d’affairs there.
