MP Antoine Zahra: Hezbollah is funding militias
MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces told the Future News channel that the majority does not want to follow the example of the opposition by imposing its model on others.
“We are standing by the constitution, peaceful democratic procedures, the revival of state institutions and the preservation of the cabinet, and we are seeking the election of a new president,” he said.
Zahra said that obstructing the elections and paralyzing the country is only a sample of what the opposition is capable of doing if it gets the chance to overthrow the government in Lebanon.
He also said that the government has been independent from foreign influences in its decision-making. “Who sought the end of the July War and made efforts to adopt Security Council Resolution 1701?” Zahra asked.
“Who decided to deploy the army in South Lebanon after 40 years of absence? It is the government,” he added.
Zahra noted that March 14 and the government have a Lebanese agenda and are proud of Arab and international support “for our right to a free, sovereign and independent country.”
He also accused Hezbollah of funding and training militias whose task is to create chaos and instability. “Thus, Hezbollah will not be held accountable in the event of any unrest he ordered,” Zahra said.
Commenting LF leader Samir Geagea’s statement on reconsidering the simple-majority option, Zahra said it is still too early to discuss it.
“Geagea said that it is impossible to elect a consensus president. We will not surrender to the vacuum. I will suggest this option to the LF bloc and then to our allies in March 14,” Zahra said.
“It is not a threat. But we will not remain inactive while Lebanon is falling over the edge,” he added.
