MP Ghanem: How can the FPM support Nasrallah but deny Sfeir
MP Robert Ghanem said it is normal for the Maronite Patriarch to express his fears over the ongoing vacuum which is eroding political life in Lebanon and resulting in the loss of constitutional institutions.
“We consider Bkirki as the national Christian reference par excellence,” Ghanem said after meeting with
Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.
“I don’t understand how the FPM could sign a political agreement with Hezbollah under the leadership of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a religious cleric who we respect, yet still deny the Patriarch his right to deal in politics,” Ghanem said.
He also wondered over the logic of preserving oneself while losing partners in the country. “Would Lebanon still exist without communal living?” Ghanem asked.
