Saniora Hails Arab Initiative as “Major Development”

Prime Minister Fouad Saniora has called the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Egypt as well as other Arab officials to thank them for helping find a solution to the Lebanese crisis.

 

A statement released by Saniora”s office said the premier also called pro-government Lebanese officials on Sunday and urged them to back a plan adopted by Arab foreign ministers at a meeting in Cairo.

 

Saniora hailed the Arab initiative, calling it “a major development on the road to solving the crisis in Lebanon.”

 

The plan endorses the choice of Army Commander Gen. Michel Suleiman as the new head of state and calls for the formation of a government of national unity and the adoption of a new electoral law.
