Former MP Soueid: The Arab decision was not well received by some Lebanese factions
Former MP Fares Soueid said that the Arab foreign ministers’ decision is fair because it does not give the majority the right to control the cabinet, even if it has a two-thirds majority, and the opposition does not have the right to the obstructing one-third vote.
“The decision did not give the right of veto to any one sect or political group capable of obstructing any governmental decision taken after the election of the new president,” he told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.
According to Soueid, the importance of the Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting is that it reflected Arab support for the candidacy of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman and the need to end the vacuum.
Soueid said that Arab support for Sleiman’s candidacy was not well received by some Lebanese factions.
“The FPM is still saying that MP Michel Aoun is the only candidate, and this contests the Lebanese consensus over Sleiman’s candidacy,” Soueid said.
He also said that the Lebanese are not currently seeking the amendment of the Taif Agreement, and that Christians are making efforts to rebuild the state.
