Muslim Spiritual Leaders Urge Implementation of Arab Initiative

The spiritual leaders of Lebanon”s three Muslim sects on Monday urged politicians to speed up implementation of the Arab initiative to settle the ongoing political crisis.

 

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, Vice chairman of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan and the spiritual leader of the Druze sect Sheikh Naim Hassan made the call in a joint statement.

 

The three Muslim spiritual leaders “call on the various political leaders to respond (positively) to the brotherly-constructive initiative launched by the Arab foreign ministers and to speed up efforts to implement its clauses,” the statement said.

 

Implementing the initiative “renews joint confidence and opens a new chapter of national fraternity,” the statement added.

 

The Muslim spiritual leaders expressed “gratitude and appreciation to the Arab Brethren for granting Lebanon the priority that it deserves while facing its long ordeal.”

 

They concluded that “Lebanon”s salvation … is the duty of all the Lebanese.”
