MP Wael Abu Faour: Aoun’s stance contradicts the spirit of the Arab initiative
MP Wael Abu Faour of the Democratic Gathering bloc said that the arrival of Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in Lebanon will facilitate the Arab League’s initiative on Lebanon.
“The majority will do its utmost to cooperate over the initiative,” Abu Faour told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.
He also said that the opposition has approved the initiative in theory. “We are still waiting for practical steps to be taken,” he added.
Commenting on MP Michel Aoun’s stance on the initiative, Abu Faour said it contradicts the spirit of the proposal.
“Aoun is still holding to the ‘guaranteeing one-third’ for the opposition, while the initiative stipulates that both March 14 and the opposition must drop their demands over the two-thirds and the obstructing one-third,” Abu Faour said.
He also noted Arab pressure being put on Syria over the Arab Summit set to be held in Damascus next March.
“There is no regional consensus in this regard,” Abu Faour said. “Yet, the relation between Arabs and the Syrian regime might change,” he added.
