MP Abu Faour: The Arab initiative is Lebanon’s last chance

MP Wael Abu Faour of the Democratic Gathering headed by MP Walid Jumblatt said that March 14’s meeting yesterday was aimed at reviewing the latest developments of the Arab initiative.

“March 14 forces are ready to facilitate the implementation of the Arab initiative because it is Lebanon’s last chance,” Abu Faour told NOW Lebanon.

“On the other hand, we are not ready to enter formal meetings that cannot produce results,” he added.

Abu Four noted the possibility of holding a meeting for national-dialogue roundtable members in the parliament

in the presence of Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.

“Yet there must be an executive procedure to implement the Arab solution to avoid useless debates and discussions,” Abu Faour said.

He also denied talk of the internationalization of Lebanon similar to what happened in 2004, which led to the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1559.

“The Arab solution contains all possible elements for solving the Lebanese crisis,” Abu Faour said. “All efforts must be made to ensure its success,” he added.

Commenting on the possibility of an escalation by the opposition after the failure of Moussa’s mission in Lebanon, Abu Faour said that the opposition has been attacking the Arab initiative from the very first moment was adopted.

“If their plan is to overthrow the present government, they will not succeed, neither in launching a war against March 14,” Abu Faour said.

He added that the ongoing vacuum is negatively influencing political stability and the role of Christians in Lebanon.

“The priority of all factions must be the endorsement of the Arab initiative as a substitute to internationalization, destabilization and the continuation of the presidential vacuum,” Abu Faour said.
