German envoy presents South with $140,000 in service vehicles
German Charge d”Affaires Hansjoerg Haber visited Sidon Friday to hand over six service vehicles worth $140,000 to the South Lebanon Water and Waste-Water Establishment (SLWWWE). The vehicles are financed by the German government through the KFW Development Bank.
This donation is part of the German response to the Lebanese government”s call for support in the aftermath of the 2006 war with Israel. The vehicles form one component of an emergency repair program for water and energy supply in South Lebanon. The program aims to upgrade the sanitary conditions in areas of the South affected by the war and in need of urgent improvements.
In coordination with the Council for Development and Reconstruction, the SLWWWE and the Council of the South, 19 projects and interventions have been identified that will be financed through this program”s budget of 12 million euros. Altogether, Germany has pledged the sum of 105 million euros – about $150 million at current exchannge rates – in direct emergency aid at the Stockholm and Paris III conferences.
