MP Elias Atallah: The opposition wants either total control or chaos

 

Democratic Left Secretary General MP Elias Atallah stressed on the March 14 forces’ coherence. “March 14 leaders’ opinions are in total conformity,” he said, adding that the alliance is holding to its principles and its cause.

 

“The alliance is giving primacy to national interests. This has been confirmed by the whole world and Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, who is being criticized by the other party because of his stances,” Atallah told NOW

Lebanon.

 

He also said that the opposition is accusing Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and France, through Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, of siding with March 14.

 

“Everyone has discovered that March 14 was ready to make compromises for the sake of national interests,” he added.

 

“The majority will no longer accept the ongoing economic paralysis,” Atallah said.

 

He also said that he is not optimistic over the Syrian stance on the Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting and the situation in Lebanon.

 

“The majority will no longer make compromises. We have suggested the 13-10-7 power-sharing formula for

the coming government, and we have endorsed Army Commander General Michel Sleiman as a consensus candidate. The opposition has also endorsed Sleiman, but his election has not taken place yet,” he added.

 

Atallah accused the opposition of seeking the destruction of the country. “They are demanding complete control of power, or else total chaos will reign throughout the country.”

 

He also stressed on the Lebanese army and security forces’ role in preserving stability and order. “However, March 14 forces will go to the street just like March 8, yet within the limits of laws and regulations.”
