MP Michel Murr: Arab initiative’s three clauses are favorable of the Christians

 

MP Michel Murr stressed on the need to deal positively with the Arab initiative. “This initiative must be fully and completely invested in.”

 

He also said that the initiative’s clauses are very clear. “The first one calls for the immediate election of a president, and this is what we haven’t done, as the election came with conditions,” Murr said.

 

“The second clause calls for the establishment of a national-unity government without a simple majority or an obstructing one-third vote, and without tackling the matter of numbers.”

 

Murr said that there is a crisis in Lebanon and that the presidential vacuum is prevailing. “Is this state acceptable?” he asked.

 

MP Murr also condemned former Minister Sleiman Franjieh’s campaign against Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.

 

“Bkirki is a national, not only Christian, reference. If the Patriarch does not endorse our political stance, do we insult him?”  

 

Commenting on MP Michel Aoun’s ultimatum whereby he demanded the third-plus-one share in the government or else the opposition will take to the streets, Murr said, “We in the Metn are civilized and don’t resort to the street.”

 

Murr said that the Arab initiative’s three clauses are favorable of the Christians. “This is why we are not going to the street,” he added.
