Geagea for New Labor Union

Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea called Thursday for the formation of a new federation of labor unions (FLU), noting that the present union was formed during the Syrian deployment in Lebanon.

 

Geagea said the present union “does not represent the working class. The best example is what happened today.”

 

He was referring to the marginal strike observed by followers of opposition-linked unions, during which sporadic rioting was reported before the army moved in to quell disturbances in areas sympathizing with Hizbullah.

 

The FLU was formed under the auspices of pro-Syrian cabinet ministers and the majority says it does not really

represent the labor force.

 

“A factual new labor union should be formed to follow up affairs of the labor class with state institutions,”

Geagea told university students who visited him at his residence in Meerab.

 

The marginal abidance by Thursday”s strike, according to Geagea, “exposed the real size of March 8-controlled syndicates.”
