Villagers Block International Road to Syria after Eid Bombing
Some 500 people blocked the main highway leading from the northern city of Tripoli to Syria on Friday following a bomb attack that killed a senior intelligence officer from the area, an AFP correspondent witnessed.
Most of the protesters were from Deir Ammar, the native village of Captain Wissam Eid, who was among at least 10 people killed in the bomb blast in a Christian suburb of Beirut.
The protesters stood in the middle of the highway and burned tires as they angrily denounced Eid”s killing.
“We are here because Eid was a dear member of our community who helped us out a lot,” said Wissam Eid, a cousin of the victim. “We will not reopen the road before those who killed him pay the price.
“We want all the politicians to take responsibility for his killing.
