Duputy Speaker : Berri got too used to delaying elections
Lebanon’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Farid Mekari accused Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri of crippling the legislature.
“Amongst the essential duties of Speaker Nabih Berri is to go to Parliament and hold presidential elections without prior agreements, but instead he is overstepping and abusing his authorities by considering it absolutely normal for himself to delay the elections. He got too used to this abuse of power ” Mekari said.
When asked why he as deputy speaker doesn’t hold a parliament session he said in an interview with Future TV:
“If the deputy speaker had constitutional powers to hold parliament sessions, the Parliament doors wont have been closed .”
Mekari was asked for his opinion over the mission of Arab league chief Moussa :
He said “no progress was achieved in the quartet meeting that Moussa held with , Gen. Michel Aoun, former President Amin Gemayel and MP Saad Hariri” but added” that does not mean that Moussa”s mission failed . On the contrary he succeeded in exposing the real intentions of the opposition and that is… it is opposed to and does not want to hold elections in the country.”
