Moussa: There are New Demands in Beirut that Got to Stop

Arab League chief Amr Moussa said “little hope” was offered in his meeting with leaders of the warring political factions at Parliament building in Beirut earlier this week.

Moussa uncovered that there were new “explicit” demands which he described as “positive, yet exaggerated.”

He also indicated that there was a “desire for a settlement,” but added that there were difficulties that needed to be solved.

“We have agreed to avoid exaggerated demands at present,” Moussa told the daily al-Sharq al-Aswat upon his return to Cairo from Beirut.

He said that the opposition set new demands.

Moussa said there were lots of demands “and in my opinion they should stop at this stage, particularly on the election of a president.”

He said a quartet meeting will take place on Feb. 24 between himself, former President Amin Gemayel, Gen.

Michel Aoun and MP Saad Hariri.
