Michel Mouawad: We won’t accept for Lebanon to be used for Iranian interests
March 14 General Secretariat member Michel Mouawad said that the assassinations in Lebanon are not a coincidence, but part of a Syrian plan to revive its hegemony over Lebanon.
“March 8 is the Lebanese cover for these assassinations,” he said.
Mouawad said that the opposition tried to cover up the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri as previous assassinations were covered by internal unrest.
“This is how the assassinations of Kamal Jumblatt, Bachir Gemayel, Sheikh Sobhi Al-Saleh, Mufti Hassan Khalid, Rene Mouawad, Dany Chamoun and other leaders were covered,” he said.
“February 14 will be the reply to attempts at Lebanon’s assassination. On February 14, we will say no to political assassinations, no to Syria’s return to Lebanon, no to the closure of the parliament for the obstruction of the Special Tribunal, no to turning Lebanon into a ground for Syrian-Iranian interests, no to civil unrest,” Mouawad said.
“We will also say no to red lines put in front of the Lebanese army in its battle against terrorism,” he added.
He also said that the only legitimate weapons are those of the Lebanese army and that war-and-peace decisions should be made by the Lebanese state.
“We will not accept for these decisions to be under the control of Hezbollah or the Iranian Guardianship of the Jurist.”
“Neither the understanding between the FPM and Hezbollah nor the attitude of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah will protect me. It is the state, the rule of law and the Lebanese army,” Mouawad said.
“I will participate in the February 14 demonstrations to call for my right to take a walk in Haret Hreik under the protection of law, not because of Nasrallah’s approval.”
“I want to participate in the February 14 demonstration to say to Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mouallem that even if Syria has new allies in Lebanon, and even if MP Michel Aoun has moved from the Freedom Square to Riad Al-Solh’s, Syria will never be stronger than it was,” Mouawad said.
“We are holding to the Lebanese army and the Church. I want to participate on February 14 to defend institutions that guarantee the free existence of Christians and to defend the Lebanese army and the presidency.” Mouawad said.
“I want to participate as a resident of Zghorta and repeat the slogan voiced by late President Sleiman Franjieh: my country is always right.”
“I want to participate to say that I refuse for Zghorta to be used to insult and offend the Maronite Patriarch on behalf of the Syrian regime,” he added.
