Moussa: How can I negotiate with someone seeking presidency?

 

A source close to Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said that Moussa expressed his annoyance over the opposition’s stance and its obstruction of the election of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman.

 

Commenting on the reasons for the failure of his efforts, in spite of his success in holding a quartet meeting between MPs Saad Hariri, Michel Aoun and former President Amin Gemayel, Moussa said “how could I negotiate with someone seeking presidency and making efforts to obstruct the election of Sleiman?”

 

“The status quo will remain the same unless MP Michel Aoun changes his stance,” the source quoted Moussa as saying.

 

According to the Saudi daily Al-Madina, Moussa said that Aoun insisted on the obstructing third during the quartet meeting and said that the 10-10-10- formula is part of the oppositions’ suggestion.

 

“The opposition has several conditions from outside the Arab initiative, including the repartition of some ministries and the qualifications of the coming prime minister,” Aoun said during the meeting.

 

Moussa described as dangerous the opposition’s stance, for every time a meeting is set to discuss the initiative’s clauses, it becomes a session to discuss problematic conditions from outside the initiative.
