Saniora: Electing a President is Our Top Priority

Premier Fouad Saniora said Wednesday that electing a new head of state is the nation”s top priority.

 

Saniora, in a televised address to the nation on the eve of the third anniversary of the 2005 killing of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri, stressed that the Lebanese do not want a return of civil strife.

 

Recalling that Hariri had “struggled for Lebanon”s democracy,” Saniora urged the Lebanese to take part in a mass rally scheduled for Thursday in remembrance.

 

The rally on Thursday aims at regaining “our normal life,” Saniora said.

 

Saniora said The Lebanese want tight inter-Arab relations based on mutual respect.

 

The Lebanese should unify their ranks and confront whoever is preventing them from achieving this goal, Saniora said.

 

“We ask all our Lebanese brethren to join us tomorrow,” Saniora added.

 

He concluded by declaring: “No to hegemony … Lebanon would survive.”
