Geagea”: Damascus Summit is the Deadline For Settlement
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Monday Hizbullah, Syria and Iran “may stop blocking the presidential election in order to facilitate success of the Arab Summit” scheduled for late March in Damascus.
“Therefore, we”ll wait for the Arab summit,” added Geagea, who also said the election of a president by simple majority is an option.
He told reporters “efforts to find the required settlement to the ongoing crisis would not end with Arab league Secretary General Amr Moussa”s forthcoming mission in Beirut, but would persist until the Arab Summit, which would be a deadline.”
Probabilities being considered by the March 14 majority alliance to deal with the crisis after the Damascus summit include electing a president by simple majority or reactivating or reshuffling premier Fouad Saniora”s
government. He did not elaborate on the remark.
