Prosecutor Demands Death for Abssi, 3 Others in Ain Alaq Bombings
Lebanon”s Prosecutor-General Saeed Mirza demanded death for Fatah al-Islam leader Shaker Abssi, two Syrians and a Palestinian for plotting last year”s Ain Alaq bombings and for the premeditated killing of innocent civilians.
The Syrians were identified as Mustapha Siyou and Farid Nassan. The Palestinian was identified as Yasser Mohammed Shuqaeri.
In his report released late on Monday, Mirza said that the team headed by top security intelligence officer Maj. Wissam Eid, who was assassinated by a car bomb Jan. 25, made “precious contributions to reveal the assailants” in the twin bus bombings in the town of Ain Alaq north of Beirut on Feb. 13, 2007.
Mirza said one of the executors of the attack, who was assigned by Abssi, admitted that the blasts, which took place on the eve of a rally planned to mark the second anniversary of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri”s assassination, was a “political message” to the pro-government March 14 coalition.
