March 14 for Election of President Prior to Damascus Summit
The March 14 majority alliance on Thursday reiterated support for implementation of the Arab initiative without additional interpretations.
The statement, issued after a meeting by members of the March 14 secretariat general, criticized “threats by followers of the Syrian-Iranian axis to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait,” noting that they aim at “stripping Lebanon of Arab and international presence.”
The alliance rejected power sharing according to a rule of equality “between a parliamentary-popular majority and a parliamentary-popular minority.”
The statement also criticized Hizbullah”s open war declaration against Israel “that puts Lebanon at risk.”
The alliance expressed hope that Arab league Secretary General Amr Moussa”s forthcoming mission would end in success to enable an elected president take part in the Damascus summit scheduled for March 29.
Lebanon”s absence at the Summit would change it into a “failed state,” the statement warned.
