Quake Hits south Lebanon
An earthquake measuring 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit south Lebanon on Saturday, causing no damage or casualties.
The Bhannes Center for Seismic and Scientific Research said the 7:45 am tremor hit an area between the port city of Tyre and the town of Srifa in the south.
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake last month struck Beirut, east and south Lebanon, wounding 10 people and causing minor damage.
Head of the Bhannes Center, Iskandar Sursock, said the epicenter of the Feb. 15 quake was a small sliding plateau south of Zrariyeh village in Tyre, which is not the major sliding plateau that caused the lethal quake in 1956.
He said Lebanon may witness in the coming 15 days a series of aftershocks which should not pose a bigger threat than the previous quake.
Another tremor measuring about 4.0 on the open-ended Richter.
