Gemayel: Lebanon has become the “scapegoat”

 

Former President Amin Gemayel described the current situation in Lebanon as nothing compared to the gravity of the situation in the region and called for wisdom “to prevent an explosion, otherwise, the region will pay the price dearly.

 

Gemayel expressed regret that Lebanon has become a scapegoat as a result of the inter Lebanese disagreements over getting Lebanon out of this deadly conflict .

 

The former president reiterated in a television interview his “commitment to the Arab initiative according to the interpretation of Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, especially in the case of the second item on the formation of a national unity government, and the third item on enacting a new electoral law on the basis of the Qathaa (county). He stressed the actual law should be discussed and agree on in the parliament in order for the law to reflect the correct and appropriate representation.

 

Commenting on the statement of Speaker Nabih Berri during his last night interview about the 10-10-10 formula for a unity government he said “General Aoun was the first to object to the proposal when it was presented for discussion and then he reluctantly accepted it after adding several conditions that will amount to veto power by the opposition.

 

Gemayel denied that the government had anything to do with the deployment of USS Cole warship off the coast of Lebanon. He said this has to do with the US interests in the region , besides he added in it is not in the Lebanese of the territorial waters. Had it been in the Lebanese territorial water the government would have taken the appropriate action.
