MP Zahra: We call on Moussa to denounce the obstructing party
MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces said that the March 14 parliamentary delegation to Cairo reiterated that it is holding to the Arab initiative.
“The delegation called on Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa to denounce publically the party responsible for the obstruction,” Zahra said in reference to the Syrian and Iranian regimes, which “are blocking solutions in Lebanon through Hezbollah and other March 8 factions.”
“How could Syria expect a successful summit while it is obstructing solutions and preventing the election of a consensus president to represent Lebanon at the summit?” he asked.
Zahra expressed the March 14 forces’ solidarity with the Palestinians and its condemnation of the recent Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
“Syria and its allies are trying to take the focus away from the Lebanese cause through the painful incidents happening in Palestine,” he added.
Zahra said that March 14 is not concerned with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s initiative to end the political crisis in Lebanon, “especially since it is coming from a suspect in the assassinations in Lebanon.”
Assad had proposed the election of General Sleiman as president and the establishment of a six-month interim government whose task would be to oversee early legislative elections using the 1960 caza-based electoral law.
Zahra said he expects the presidential-election session set for March 11 to be postponed as were 15 previous sessions.
