Shiite cleric urges boycott of Damascus summit

Lebanon”s Free Shiite Movement leader Sheikh Mohammad al-Haj Hassan urged the Arab leaders to boycott the summit in Damascus if the Lebanese presidential election is not resolved before the scheduled date of the summit.

Sheikh Hassan also called on the public prosecutor to open an investigation into the announcement made by Sheikh Seif Eddin Hussami, a dissident from the Islamic Action Front, which is led by Fathi Yakan, because what was announced raises big concerns about the security threats facing Lebanon as a result of efforts to destabilize the country.

Sheikh Hassan held “Iran responsible for derailing the Shiite line from its natural path in the Arab world ” and urged the “Shiite scholars , scientists and intellectuals to recognize this great danger the Shiites are facing and to rescue the Shiite sect from the Persians”.

Sheikh Hassan accused the Hezbollah-led opposition of being responsible for the failure of the Arab initiative which called for the election of the Lebanese army chief General Michel Suleiman as the president based on a three point Arab plan.

He said that ” the opposition will never achieve its dreams of divine victories as long as the Cedar Revolution sons are alive and free”.

He praised the “wisdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt in calling for resolving the crisis before the summit”.

He declared that the leaders of the Free Shiite movement will tomorrow issue an open letter to the US embassy in Lebanon and to the leadership of March 14 including former president Amin Gemayel, Democratic Gathering leader MP Walid Jumblatt, parliament majority leader MP Saad Hariri,Lebanese Forces leader Dr. Samir Geagea and National Liberal Party leader Dory Chamoun containing a detailed explanation of the tragedy the Shiites are facing”.
