Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon: The Pope is concerned about the ongoing crisis

 

Archbishop Luigi Gatti, the Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon, expressed his concern over the ongoing crisis in the country and the failure of all initiatives to end it.

 

Gatti noted the positive role that Lebanon can play in preserving regional stability. 

 

“I will make all necessary contacts in order to reach a solution,” Gatti said after meeting with Kataeb leader and former President Amin Gemayel.

 

“The Holy Father is concerned and is following the situation up closely,” he added.

 

After the meeting, Gemayel said that the present crisis follows from the opposition’s desire to change the political system and impose its still-unclear vision of the country.

 

“All their maneuvers over the presidential elections, the establishment of a national-unity government and the adoption of a new electoral law are aimed at providing a cover for a change in the Lebanese system,” Gemayel said.
