Jumblatt: Arab leaders should boycott Syria”s summit

 

Lebanon”s Democratic Gathering leader MP Walid Jumblatt wrote today ” There is no doubt in my mind that The Syrian regime will continue with its destructive efforts in Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq and the disruption of the Lebanese presidential elections ahead of the summit in Damascus”. He added : “The minimum required of all the Arab leaders is to boycott such a summit”.

 

His article will appear tomorrow in the PSP (Progressive Socialist party) weekly newspaper Al Anbaa.

Jumblatt continued :

 

“The Syrian regime will be trying to exploit the presence of the Arab leaders in Damascus to gain legitimacy at a time when it is one of the most internationally isolated regimes in the world, due to its involvement in the murder of Lebanon”s former Prime minister Rafik Hariri and the other related crimes”.

 

He added : “The least we expect of our Arab Friends is not to reward this criminal regime for its crimes in Lebanon and elsewhere in the region”.

 

“Participating in the summit is a reward for the crimes of the Assad regime”. Jumblatt said.

 

Jumblatt added: It is time for the Lebanese people to be left alone and to start living a peaceful life , free of killings and chaos . Look at what is happening in the south he said ” The Lebanese are tired of living under the state of war imposed on them by the resistance and are packing and leaving the country by the hundreds”.

 

Jumblatt said the respect for the resistance movement has drastically fallen because it has become a totalitarian party and a Syrian and Iranian tool to destabilize the country by acting as a state within a state, occupying the downtown of Beirut ( which has resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs) , disrupting the Lebanese way of life , destroying the economy and blocking the election of a president for Lebanon. He was referring to Syria”s ally the Hezbollah-led opposition.
