Samir Geagea: I have some suggestions for Washington
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said he is not expecting anything specific from his visit to Washington.
“Yet I hope I will be able to convince US officials to increase their support to Lebanon in the midst of this difficult phase the Middle East is going through,” Geagea told the French-Lebanese daily L’Orient-le-Jour.
“I have some suggestions to propose to US officials,” he added.
Geagea said that his visit to the US was scheduled three months ago and that it has nothing to do with the latest incidents in Lebanon.
He added that Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence are his primary concerns and that some are trying to empty these ideals of their meaning.
“I will also discuss with US officials the matters of the Shebaa Farms, the Lebanese detainees in Israeli and Syrian prisons, ways to support the Lebanese army and government, the redrawing of the Lebanese-Syrian borders, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1680 and other relevant resolutions adopted in the past three years,” Geagea added.
He also said he will try to seek a guarantee from US officials to help exclude Lebanon from regional conflicts.
