Greek Catholics: The presidential elections must not wait
The Higher Council of the Greek Catholic sect in Lebanon stressed on the historical responsibility of all politicians and political factions in Lebanon to help find a solution to the crisis.
“Foreign initiatives and efforts cannot cover this responsibility but must be directed toward solving non-Lebanese obstacles that are influencing the presidential elections and the implementation of Arab and international resolutions aimed at ensuring sovereignty and stability,” read a statement from the council, released after its regular meeting presided over by its vice president, Minister Michel Pharaoun.
“Any obstruction or vacuum of constitutional institutions jeopardizes the country and its citizens,” the statement added.
The council also stressed on the need to dissociate the Lebanese presidential elections from any Arab, regional or international events.
“The presidential elections are an internal Lebanese matter and must not depend on any event to continue,” the statement read.
