Jamaa Islamiya Criticizes Berri

The Jamaa Islamiya, Lebanon”s chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood, on Wednesday said linking presidential elections to an agreement on general election law aims at blocking the vote.

 

The group”s politburo, in a statement, urged the Lebanese to “bravely adopt national decisions” labeling the closure of parliament for 17 months “a constitutional breach.”

 

“We ask the Parliament Speaker to put an end to this blocking to enable legislators honor their constitutional and national duties and play the role they should to exit the country of this crisis.”

 

It also called for the “election of a president who enjoys the backing and confidence of the Lebanese People … to sponsor dialogue that results in understandings over the various issues.”

 

As for the general elections law, the statement said it should be tackled by parliament.
