MP Zahra rules out a breakthrough in the short term
MP Antoine Zahra said he does not expect a breakthrough in the coming week because Speaker Nabih Berri has been portraying the problem as an inter-Lebanese one during his Arab tour.
“We all know that the problem and the solution lie outside of Lebanon,” Zahra told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.
“If reaching a solution turns out to be impossible, March 14 will seriously consider other options to find a way out,” he said.
Zahra said that the ones who suggested the 1960 electoral law definitely want to amend it, even if to a small extent, so that it would fit the current situation appropriately.
“The normal steps to take would be pursuing the presidential elections and then trying to revive state institutions,” Zahra said.
He also said that among the workshops launched by March 14 is a special committee that is working on the electoral law.
