MP Zahra: The Arab initiative is the only way

  

MP Antoine Zahra of the Lebanese Forces expressed his hope that Lebanon’s Arab and international contacts are invested in facilitating the election of a president.

 

“The danger is directed at Lebanon, the Taif Agreement and our national unity. It is aimed at letting people get used to the presidential vacuum,” Zahra said in an interview.

 

“If efforts succeed in convincing the Syrian regime to facilitate the presidential elections in Lebanon, then these elections can be held immediately. We hope that Arab and international pressure on Damascus will result in a Syrian move to push for the participation of all parliamentary blocs and MPs in the presidential-election session,” he added.

 

He added that the Arab initiative is the only framework for a solution in Lebanon and said it is obvious that Speaker Nabih Berri and his team are obstructing the election of a president.

 

“March 14 has made its greatest efforts to reach a solution. Yet they are continuing with their blackmail and their impossible conditions, but they pretend innocence,” Zahra said.
